Hydrostatic transmissions / Closed Circuit
Hydrostatic transmissions (HST): Consisting of purpose-designed hydraulic pump and motor units, they transmit mechanical energy (rotation) with great flexibility and controllability. HST units are connected in closed circuits, meaning the oil from the motor unit returns directly to the pump unit, instead of the tank. Losses in the closed circuit are replenished by a smaller charge pump, often encased in the main pump unit. HSTs are widely used in the role of propel systems in mobile hydraulic machinery.
